Colleen Doran, artist and writer extrordanaire, has been putting up a series of posts on the lessons she has learned in the publishing industry.
It is very long and in several (likely 7) parts but it is both gripping and informative. The fact that she has overcome some of these obstacles is nothing sort of inspiring.
If you are in any way considering publishing, I strongly recommend that you read this....in order. It's early installments are weighted towards the comic industry in particular, but many of these things happen to creators in all venues.
If you haven't checked it out already, I also strongly reccomend that you pick up A Distant Soil, Ms. Doran's awesome fantasy comic which you can buy in graphic novel form here.
