Over on the Command Post, Weather Undergound reports that Cuba is getting absolutely hammered by Hurricane Dennis. The eyewall is skirting the coast and nearly 70 miles of coast got hit with the full storm surge (up to 20ft in this case) additionally this is the dangerous quadrant so sustained winds of 145-150mph have the speed of the hurricane added to them. Very few structures can withstand anything like these winds, particularly for the multiple hours that this area will have to endure them. WU describes it as the worst day in modern Cuban history, though I'd add the caveat "since Castro came to power".
This is likely the worst, most destructive storm to have hit the island in over a century. Hurricanes in the Caribbean are generally a serious story but this could be a real Human catastrophe.
UPDATE: It looks like the eyewall is going to pass over Havana....200,000 people...damn.
