Banality Blogging ChippendaleKen Edition...
I Finally seem to have Power...fer sure this time....There is annoying damage to the trailer, nothing catastrophic just more skirting and a window in the spare room is cracked.
Clutch went out in the Pickup of Peril.
My ...umm...pants fell down at work...
(this is good because I'm definately loosing or redistributing weight...it's bad because...well, my pants fell down at work)
The pants then got caught by a parcel strap, caught in the sort aisle, and had the zipper wrecked and the button removed as I extracted them.
What in the hell?
I mean damn! This was like a @#*&! Mr. Bean skit.
I used a stapler, tape and ultimately a supervisors belt to stay at work.
Got home got shower, went to school (driving without a clutch is a beeeotch), finished school got into truck started driving home and realized that today is my one day a week caligraphy class.
So I fought my way back through 3:00 traffic to arrive late. Had to explain my tardieness in Japanese, which I did badly.
I talked to the fellow next to me to find out that he is an Officer in the USCG.
OH NOES!
Now I was late and spoke jacked-up japanese in front of an officer....and I've got to be extra on my toes all during class. He may even be transferring to my unit.
ODU has locked out my university E-mail account, which I learned today is absolutely vital for my caligraphy class. Tomorrow I should get that cleared up.
Fortunately I can rest assured that as the day is over, nothing else can possibly....
Oh yeah ....that....

Great Googly Moogly....
....what a mess!
It wasn't a Hurricane, nor a tropical storm, just a big thunderstorm when it got to us, but Ernesto spread a completely inordinate ammount of chaos around Hampton Roads, especially Newport News and Hampton.
Flooded streets, downed trees and lots of power outages including my house. Mary Imaculate hospital suffered a total power failure possibly as a result of lightning interacting with their generator.
The UPS building suffered power surges that knocked out equipment and computers....the morning was quite chaotic.
My trailer lost some of the skirting I'd replaced the other day and as of noon when I got home from work had suffered other minor damage. I left to avoid getting trapped by rising water. I'm on the southside now at a cybercafe.
Interestingly I saw several ambulances were towing zodiacs today.
I thought Isabel's damage was disproportionate, this is ridiculous.
If a big hurricane ever hits here we are well and truly screwed.

Oh Hail....
MONSTER storm last night capping nearly a week of rain. This was well after the main storm had passed and seems to shave been an unrelated summer thunderstorm.
Hampton Roads was not hit nearly as bad as the northeast we still have 4 inches of water in some Portsmouth streets. There was lots of pea to marble sized hail, which is quite the awakening experience in a mobile home :)
The pickup of peril was flooded and my yard is now chock full of limbs and debris washed down the street and into the woods behind me. Fortunately my singlewide castle of banality is elevated high enough that it was unwetted.
Some easily repaired damage, but I did lose a bit of skirting from some large tree limbs scraping by the house as they collected at the bottom of the hill in what must have been 4-6 feet of water! That skirting is going to be awkward to replace. There is much yard work to do but there is still standing water (That didn't even happen that in this yard after Floyd and Isabel) My folks in Portsmouth have 6 inches of water standing in their back yard and the streets in Merrifields were still half full of water as much as 4 inches deep at 11:00 this morning. There was consdiderable damage to Hampton from hail and wind.
Compared to the nightmare that gripped the Gulf Coast last year and the awful floods elsewhere this week this is piker stuff, but I'm very concerned that the ground throughout SE Virginia is supersaturated now, even worse than it was before Isabel. That CAT-1 storm did damage out of all proportion to its strength due in part to the soggy ground allowing far more power lines and trees to fall over than normal.
We are expecting the storms this year to follow the pattern of the thirties meaning more east coast hits. It is well to remember that the 1933 storm was the most damaging storm to hit this area since colonial times.

4,000 and climbing
After the Tsunami nothing shocks me anymore, but this latest calamity to befall Indonesia is heartwrenching.
Latest from BBC here
Instapundit is putting up his list of charities.
Bird Flu
Tsunami
Islamic Millitants
A particularly lethal volcano
Now the earthquake
.... followed by torrential rains to drown those buried in the rubble.
I am without words.
