Tales of Futures Past

Paleo-Future just got added to the blogroll! :)

A brand new blog with a really neat collection of future predictions from the past.

Thanks to Rand Simberg for the pointer.

Dipsticks and Darwin Awards

ACE, (who you should be reading anyway) has a whole category dedicated to the documentation of accidental and negligent shootings. Guns are an important tool but like many things (such as cars, lawnmowers, alcohol and matches,) they must be handled with respect, and are deadly in the hands of an idiot.

On This Day In History...

An egg shattered and chaos burst forth upon the world.
Happy Birthday Wonderduck.

Mr. Astro, You May Lash the Broom to Your Mast

Astro has an excellent post on the Tech Massacre. It defies excerpting. Read the whole thing.

Meanwhile, Over at Pulpjunkie....

Everyones favorite un-dead Peter Lore lookalike does anime, giving capsule reviews of portions 18 animated series and movies, mostly from Japan.

He also continues his movie review project with The Cuckoos. In which our heroic reviewer learns once again that we have indeed come a long way....in many ways.

Go check him out! :)

Narcissism Disguised as Contrition...

A fantastic and thought provoking post over at Colleen Doran's Blog,
(which deserves to be checked out periodically anyway).

Well....duh...

Suburban Banshee explains it to the history channel....

In the first century, a time where most people didn’t believe in the gods qua gods, much less divine miracles — and in which people were very interested in mechanisms, like the water organ — Heron was supposedly aiding and abetting priests by producing false miracles.

Which is why he wrote a book all about ‘em, of course. ‘Cause he wanted to get torn apart by the gullible. Who apparently would be convinced by tiny little archers they couldn’t even see from the back rows. Because people in the past were all stupid, unlike today’s professors and the geniuses who run History Channel.

Yes, indeed....

Volokhery

The super-informative legal blog with the delightfully sinister name is on a roll tonight.

Johnathan Adler has several posts on the politicization of science here and an analysis over several consolidated posts regards a recent (apparently bogus)story about the AEI buying scientists (which does not seem to be the case) as well as similar stories here.

Eugene Volokh has a good series of posts giving an overview of the left's newest progressive tool for brining about utopia....anti-blasphemy laws.

Jim Lindgren has a couple of well researched posts regards the recently revived desperation meme that hippies never spat on vets here.

Finally,Ilya Somin takes time to point out the advisability of insuring that government officials are well acquainted with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Oh Noes! Wikipedia has Found The Delete Button!!

Ubu Roi over at Mahou...Me....umm..Madi..Medo...er... Bridgebunnies.com breathlessly reports that Wikipedia is editing reality itself!

OK, actually he points out that no, not every fanzine necessarily needs a Wikipedia entry, and has productive suggestion for those who think they should.

Soon perhaps, this story won't ring so true. :)

That Boxer Kerfuffel

The Anchoress has a far larger roundup than is warranted on Senator Boxer's recent awkward comment to the Secretary of State.

It is, nevertheless, quite an interesting and link rich post.

I apologize for having descended for the first time to using the word "kerfuffel" in a post title....but Ed Driscoll beat me to the rightful title. :)

REPEAL THE 17th AMMENDMENT...IM SICK OF ELECTIONEERING SENATORS

Actually, there are other reasons why restoring senators to being appointed by the state legislatures might be a good thing, but right now I'm going to focus on the current VA senate race...

Webb
Allen

A pox on both your houses.

Phone calls....hatefull adds...this race has descended into the sewer.

Don't call me.

Don't SPAM me.

I am sick of you both.

Oh and Senator Allen. You have utterly tossed your presidential hopes with your feckless gutter campaign. Please go back to being the Jeffersonian who was such a good governor...go back to being the Reagan Republican we elected to the Senate. Mabey in 20 years you might be able to run for the big slot, but not now.

Why couldn't you have done more adds like this new one....

UPDATE: Oh hell with it....I'm leaning towards Meryl.

Heeee's Baaack!

Allan Harvey's excellent "Gorilla Daze" blog went AWOL a bit ago.

Now he's up and running at a new URL.

If you are interested in comic books, especially those from the 60's '70's and '80's then this is a place you must bookmark.

I had to read the whole thing twice.

That is my story, and I am sticking to it.

Brickmuppet blogspotting

Added a few worthies to the blogroll.

Gorilladaze is the blog of Welsh Cartoonist and cosmopolitan Londoner Allan Harvey. He opines on comic books both current and past. Best of all he is covers some of the more obscure wackieness! :) Where else can one find info on such 4-color crack as 60s Superboy comics.

Ghost Blog is the web presence of one..er...Major Matoko Kusanagi(!?) If you get the reference you're likely skeptical, but this is a very interesting blog focusing on current events from a sort of technophillic libertarian perspective.

'Aqoul is a group blog focusing on current events from a middle eastern perspective and features commentary from actual moderate muslims...as opposed to the individuals who are often presented as such. Those are often (for the middle east) social radicals more akin to presenting Bill Maher, Ward Churchill and Cindy Sheehan as the silent majority in Alabama. This is a really important site IMHO and I'm indebted to the aforementioned 'Major' for pointing it out. Note that some of the co-bloggers are a bit abrasive, the Lounsbury in particular, can be a bit off-putting with his near superhuman powers of snarky, sanctimonious, condescension, but I strongly recommend this site.

And Speaking Of Den Beste

Stephen Den Beste, a really good blogger who shut down his current events blog over a year ago is now a regular poster over at Red State. Go pay him a visit, his posts are almost always thoughtful and are interesting even if you don't agree with him.

His Anime reviews can be found at Chizumatic.
