The news caption notwithstanding, I don't believe that's a .50 cal. They just aren't that large. That looks like it might be a Mark 38 25-mm machine gun:
No, this looks just like a Ma Deuce...next to a very short girl.
The barrel looks too narrow to accomodate an inch wide shell. The lightening holes are too small and it looks just like an M2....it may be The weapon may have a lengthened barrel (by about 3-4 inches) or she may be shorter than 4'11. Its unclear if the grips count towards the overall length, and the thing may not actually be flush with the floor....
But I'll ask a GM because now you have injected doubt into my otherwise ordered existance.
That's a .50 cal all right. I had the pleasure of sinking a 'tomato' with one of these on one of my middie cruises. Navy ships all carry them as well (even carriers) - they are useful for warding off small boats intent on an USS Cole type attack.
Here's a pic of one mounted on a Coastie ship. I'd have shown a Navy gun but Ken is a Coastie, afterall...
I'm a 37 year old UPS employee, college student, Coast Guard reservist, amateur diver and general geek. I hope to study in Japan in a few years and I'd like to move to the overseas territories, especially Guam. I do lean a bit to the right politically.....but you knew that if you looked at my blog.
I want to live long enough to walk on the Moon or Mars before I go.
It is important to note that the views on this blog are my own and not those of UPS or the United States Coast Guard Reserve.
