Bad Day for the Coast Guard
Back in August, 2 divers aboard the Coast Guard icebreaker Healy died in a diving accident.
The investigation is complete and it does not reflect well upon the Coast Guard.
The dive program expanded massively after 9-11 and a lot of details got lost in the shuffle. This has apperantly been corrected now as all 17 dive teams have passed inspection.
About the best that can be said is that the Guard did not over it up or scapegoat anybody, which reflects better upon us than some other organizations. At least we don't tend to repeat our mistakes.
The ocean is too dangerous a place to cut corners.
